Principal’s Welcome

Dear Leapwood Family,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year!

We will continue with our implementation of the “Common Core Technology Project” in which all of our students had an IPAD to use in their classroom daily.

We will continue with the RAMP Tennis program where our children are exposed to the sport of Tennis.

And, we have a brand new Scholastic Guided Reading Leveled Library!

We are looking forward to new and exciting things this school year such as

  • a Leveled Guided Reading Program,
  • Writer's Workshop,
  • Word Study,
  • a Butterfly Garden,
  • and a new School Mural!

Please make sure to continue going to our website for current school information and events at www.leapwoodlions.com.

We plan to “Go Green” and will discontinue sending newslet-ters/flyers home.

Thanks again for your continued  support. Have a safe and wonderful school year.

Help with LAUSD Superintendent Search

your-voice-counts.pngIn July 2015, the Los Angeles Unified School District launched a nationwide search for a new Superintendent of Schools to replace Ramon C. Cortines, who announced over the summer that he intended to step down from his position in December.

The District chose Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, an executive search firm that specializes in finding school district executives. The firm will aid the Los Angeles Board of Education, which oversees the Los Angeles Unified School District, in finding a new leader.

The public will be involved in helping to shape the conversation and to provide critical input. I ask you to participate in every way that you can. Your voice as a stakeholder is very important to the Board of Education.

In the coming days and weeks, I specifically encourage you to:
  • Attend the meetings. (Look in the coming days for a full schedule that will be posted on this webpage.)
  • Complete the online survey.
  • Follow the conversation on LASchools on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Return to this page for the latest updates.
Thank you for engaging us at this important moment in the history of our school district.

Steve Zimmer
Los Angeles Board of Education
